UNC Jazz Band with visitors Rodney Whitaker and Etienne Charles
There's a very good custom of high-caliber jazz overall performance at UNC. The jazz area comes with overall performance ensembles, including the UNC Jazz Band and five jazz combos, including program choices in jazz theory/harmony, jazz improvisation, jazz history, and jazz arranging. The Jazz Band plus the jazz combos supply shows on campus two times each semester, that shows in many cases are provided along with visitor designers. In this setting, students are able to be coached by these artists and to perform using them on-stage. In recent years, physicians have included, the Chick Corea Trio, Christian McBride, Brian Blade, the Marcus Roberts Trio, Wycliffe Gordon, Jamey Aebersold, Phil Degreg, Greg Gisbert, the Lynn Seaton Trio, Harry Waters, and others. The combos also regularly perform at a number of venues into the Chapel Hill location.
