We like to present new music and showcase present artists striking their prime. But we’re happy to honor the veterans as well as the lifers – the people whose work has stood the test of the time. In that light, we provide Steve Miller Band and Preservation Hall Jazz Band from the ACL stage on the weekend.
Steve Miller Band require no introduction – lauded rock guitar player Steve Miller along with his numerous partners-in-crime have been slamming around since the belated 60s, leaving a string of indelible hits within their wake. Remember “Abracadabra?” “Fly Like An Eagle?” “Space Cowboy?” Definitely you are doing, and you’ll notice all of them on Saturday before a keen group in what ended up being the very first taping of ACL in the Moody Theater.
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been in existence even longer than Miller – the team’s genesis coincides using founding for the Hall itself in 1961, therefore the form of brand new Orleans jazz the band plays goes back further than that. History everyday lives on in PHJB’s activities. But don’t believe means the team is preserved in emerald. Joining the band onstage tend to be Jim James from My day Jacket, James Petralli from White Denim and ever-elegant Del McCoury Band to add their inimitable modern mojo. As Soon As You hear “St. James Infirmary” sung by a high-voiced indie rock front dude, you’ll recognize it is what you’ve constantly wanted.
Stay tuned this Saturday for the classic rock ‘n’ jazz fix – as constantly, check your regional PBS listings for broadcast amount of time in your neighborhood.
